about where's mario?
In nearly all Zelda games you will find an appearance of some "other" game appearance. In nearly all cases it's Mario or Mario characters of some sort. However, it doesn't always have to be Mario or even characters for that matter. Below you will find a listing of all cameos that I could find within each game. If you know some that I missed, please don't be afraid to e-mail me at webmaster@mcloz.net.
The Legend of Zelda |

The Whistle's Tune
Not many people notice this, but the whistle's tune is the same tune that you can hear in Super Mario Bros. 3. Well, it can be debated that it might be the other way around since many argue that The Legend of Zelda came first, but the two were so closely released it's hard to determine.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link |

|
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past |
|
Mario's Picture
In Kakariko Village, from the village square, enter the house on the right. Inside is a pretty obvious picture on the wall. Though it's hard to distinguish, it's a picture of Mario! (See the "M" on his cap?) In fact, if you pull on this picture, you get Rupees.

Chain Chomps
Sent in by superfiercelink
In Turtle Rock you will spot this popular Mario enemy.

Pokies

And again in Turtle Rock, yet another Mario enemy tries to hurt our cute little hero.
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening |
|
Talon = Mario?
It's a very close match... and LA is possibly the one game with the most cameos in it.
| | |
Yoshi Doll
To start the Trading Sequence, go to the Crane Game and sitting in the middle of the table is a doll of Yoshi that you must win.
| | |
Princess Toadstool's Picture
When you deliver the letter to Mr. Write in the trading sequence, it will show you the picture he received in the envelope. It's Princess Toadstool!
| | |
Goombas
In underground passages, you are likely to run into the popular Mario enemy.
| | |
Stomps
Another popular Mario enemy (the big blocks with faces that try to squish you). He, too, is located in underground passages.
| | |
Sparks
And another Mario game enemey, found in the same spot with the previous two.
| | |
Cheep Cheeps
Do the Mario enemies ever stop?
| | |
Mamu
A Mario Bros. boss. Now he's just trying to make a living singing.
| | |
Pirahna Plants
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Located in many of the underground passages, trying to attack our hero as he jumps over the pipes.
| | |
Boo
Sent in by Jinkondorf
The ghostly friend that Link assists is the evil monster that tries to do Mario in.
| | |
Shy Guy
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Yet another dasterdly beast from the Mario games.
| | |
Bombites
Sent in by Jinkondorf
These walking bombs are rather reminiscent of the Bobombs from Mario.
| | |
Chomp Chomp
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Madame Meow Meow's cute little pet and Link's temporary rescued side-kick is quite obviously the familiar Chain Chomps found in Mario.
| | |
Manbo's Mombo
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Doesn't this tune ring eerily true of the Mario theme?
| | |
Prince Richard
The most unknown cameo of them all. Prince Richard was the star of another game that never made it to American shores nor was really all that popular. I forget the game's name, though.
| | |
Mr. Write
SimCity fans will easily recongize him as the green haired advisor on the SNES SimCity version. His name... Dr. Wright.
| | |
Anti-Kirby
Sent in by Jinkondorf
In Level 7: Eagle's Tower, there is a monster named Anti-Kirby, which is a obviously an evil twin of the all famous star of the Kirby games.
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time |
|
Opening Tune
Sent in by Starfe the Deathwind
If you listen really closely to the opening tune (when you turn on the game), you will yet again hear the familiar SBM 3 Whistle tune.
| | |
Mario64 Pictures
In Hyrule Castle Courtyard where you meet Princess Zelda, turn to the window on your right from the entrance. If you look inside really carefully, you will see pictures of Mario, Peach, and Bowser. Shoot at them with a slingshot and you will get 20 Rupees.
| | |
Bowser Medallions
If you look very carefully, you will notice that Malon and Talon are both wearing Bowser-head medallions.
| | |
Talon = Mario? Ingo = Luigi?
Do we really need to go into this one? I think the evidence speaks for itself.
| | |
Sunrise StarFox64
Ever play StarFox64? You know the theme music pretty well then. Now listen to the music in Hyrule field when the sun is just starting to come up and the main theme music hasn't even begun yet. Doesn't that music sound very familiar?
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask |
|
Mario Mask
Sent in by Jinkondorf
On the back of the Mask Salesman's pack, you can see a Mario Mask. So, Mario really did make an appearance. I totally forgot about this one.
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle Series |
|
These games were pretty much rehashes on the previous games. So, apart from Talon's reapparance as well as Mr. Write and so forth, I did not notice anything "new".
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker |
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures |
|
Chain Chomps
Sent in by superfiercelink
You will run into this Mario enemy to the north of Kakariko Village in the maze of fire.
|
|
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap |
|
Lakitus
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Another Mario Bros. enemy makes its appearance in a Zelda game.
| | |
Bobombs
Sent in by Jinkondorf
Another enemy from Mario.
| | |
Ocarina of Wind Music
Sent in by Jack O'Reily, Webmaster of Desert Colossus
The Super Mario Bros. 3 whistle tune makes yet another return.
