"The End of the Investigations - A Goodbye and The One’s that got away."
So this is it, an end of an Era. I’ve been at MCLoZ since late 2001, which is quite worrying really, considering we’re now 2005. But alas I must depart for new horizons and the such. It’s been great fun to work at MCLoZ and to see it through the closures, the gaps in the updates due to Max moving and even the evolution of the layouts.
I’d like to extent a huge thankyou to Maxine MagicFox for first accepting me to join the staff (I actually joined in June or July 2001 as the News reporter - which didn’t last long) and then the Investigations made its debut. And again a thanks goes to Max for accepting the idea and allowing these articles to run for this amount of time.
Thanks Max, you’ve been a great pal and you are indeed an excellent Webmaster with what I believe is the finest Zelda site on the net.
And yes I’d like to extend a special thankyou to everyone who has supported these Investigations over the years, there are far too many to list.
And of course I’d like to thank everyone who has read these Investigations.
So that is it, after 23 Investigations I’m finished, but what about the one’s that got away? You know, the one’s I started but never finished, or even only had idea’s for. Well I might as well tell you what I haven’t written or completed.
It’s All About the Graphics: Part 3
When I originally wrote the first two in this series, I had intended to add a third one eventually but later on. Of course it never happened, perhaps it was partly due to the fact that I couldn’t decided on what to write about. The first idea was a look at alternate graphic styles, like cel-shading and so forth, that or I would do a direct comparison between a 2D game and 3D game. However, I never actually put pen to paper and didn’t even start the project, it was just an idea floating about.
Triforce in OoT Theory
I was actually seriously thinking about writing an Investigation about this at one point in time. It was to look at the many different theories including the famed Ariana Almandoz claim that gripped the Zelda community for a long time, of course that was proven false, as are all other triforce in OoT theories. All I was going to do was to examine these theories and see if they had at least some merit to them.
However, I knew what my conclusion was going to be, the Triforce IS in OoT and appears prominently in many of the buildings, but you can’t use it, so stop fussing and start making up theories about Majora’s Mask.
Thank goodness this never made it to production.
The GBA Saga
This was originally going to be a 2 or 3 part exploration of the GBA, but never made it out of planning…or at least it did but in a different form and not in parts for sure. The original title for the August 2003 Edition (Is the GBA to GCN Connection Worth Continuing?) was “The GBA Saga, part one: Is the link up idea any good?”
Definitely different from what it ended up being. The other two planned Investigations were scrapped before I released the August 2003 Edition, thus bringing about the name change.
Nintendo DS Investigation
This was originally set for a January 2005 release, but Max was still not back and the decision to pull the plug on this one was due to work from University. I did indeed start it, but never got past the first paragraph. All it was going to be was a look at the Nintendo DS now that it had been released and I had been playing it for a little while, my opinions on the NDS can now be viewed on my last Investigation.
The E3 Reports
Oh dear…I never ever finished these. I have started a few but they never made it, I decided that they were too much hassle to write about, especially E3 2004 with the new LoZ and NDS being revealed. I started the Investigation mentioning both of them, but then decided to split them up. One about the Nintendo DS (read above) and this then leads me onto…
Zelda 2005 Impressions
Ran out of time with this one I’m afraid. I didn’t even write anything down, all I had were a few ideas in my head and that was about it.
NES Games Suitable for GameCube Updates
Yep there was going to be a whole series full of these and I wasn’t going to stop at just NES games, I was planning on looking at some SNES and GB games as well. But I managed to stop myself in time, because they wouldn’t have been proper Investigations, fine they would have been fun to write about, but eventually they would become stale and boring. Though I would have liked to have written a least one more, as it gave me an excuse to get out the old NES…now those were the days.
An Unreleased and Untitled December Investigation
This was going to be in place for the December 2002 Edition, but instead I wrote something totally different (What if?). This is what I wrote for the original idea:
“As it is the season of Christmas I thought I’d change the style of my investigations just this once. I’m going to moan, I’m going to investigate but I’m not going to take it seriously.
So here it is my wacky collection of wacky mini investigations for this festive issue of my investigations.
Now what shall I do…hmmm…ahh…yes I’ve got it!
What’s next for our favourite elfin hero?
Way back at E3 2001 Nintendo shocked the world by showing their latest Zelda game for the Nintendo GameCube, as you all may know it was the first showing of Cel-da. What a contrast it was from SpaceWorld 2000’s realistic Link, it seemed more of a Disney cartoon instead of a Zelda game.
Within days of it being shown people absolutely hated it, some people believed Nintendo had gone bonkers and Mario just laughed his moustache off! But as time has gone by, the game seems to have gained most of the respect it had lost back, Nintendo have developed the game into something that is a must buy. This is definitely a good sign for Nintendo; the fans are coming back to Zelda, people are now leaving their happy gaming of Super Mario Sunshine and waiting anxiously for Cel-da to be released and Mario is crying.
So with all this positive energy (no this is not a history lesson about the 1960’s) about Link’s change, where will Nintendo venture next? Will they give Link yet another make over? Will they kill him off? Well that’s what this investigation is for if I can be bothered to write it. So if you are now reading this line it means that I haven’t been bothered to write this.”
And the Others?
There are many others that have met the planning stage, but some I have forgotten and some are far too ridiculous to mention.
On that note, it is indeed Goodbye and the end of Doh’s Investigations. I’m going to miss this place, time to move on I suppose. Well everyone, take care and thankyou for reading and supporting the Investigations!
Farewell
~ Doh (April 2005)
