"Should Nintendo have spent more time on Majora's Mask?"

For this investigation I have used most of the same headings that I used in the previous investigation.

This question has totally plagued my mind ever since I completed Majora's Mask. So this is why I'm doing this investigation.

(Please note! I will try not to refer to LttP as much as I did in the previous investigation).

~Doh

Storyline

The storyline for this game is just so disappointing; you have to save the world from getting crushed by the moon, get loads of masks and retrieve Majora's Mask! I just don't think Nintendo actually thought things through and they just released the game without giving much thought into how the storyline was to develop.

But there are a few initiative ideas in the game, for example the fact that you only have three days to complete the game, may sound as if it makes the game short but then the concept of going back in time and seeing everything happen again is quite a good way to actually get around the game.

And also I should mention the sort of sub plots that were in the game and good one was the Kafei and Anju thing, it was great idea to put your mind off having to save world and instead to have to save two peoples relationship.

But sadly, the storyline wasn't as good as it should have been.

How long did it last?

Four Temples!! Just four Temples what were Nintendo thinking?? Come on if they were able to put eight temples into a GB game, why weren't they able to give us eight temples in MM? It just made the game not feel like a normal Zelda game!

But on a slightly good note about the temples, they were quite big in comparison to some of the ones in OoT, but that really doesn't make much of a difference.

Though the game lacks a good storyline and only has four temples it still was quite a long game, you have to find all the masks, do a bit a trading, get all the fairies and a lot more! That is a lot of things to do in just three days!

Surprisingly it ended up lasting a lot longer than I expected.

Graphics

I'm not someone who always follows a game because it has good graphics so I won't spend to long on this point.

Right let's put this straight, MM is an upgraded version of the engine used for OoT and that's all I can really say on the matter, but I shall try to carry this on further.

Now like I said I don't fall for games that have good graphics but that doesn't mean can't comment about it. The graphics in MM were a lot better and sharper than the graphics in OoT, but this of course came with a bit of a catch, you needed the expansion pack! I can only comment about what happened in Europe, but at the time MM was released the N64 was starting it downwards fall and finding an expansion pack was very hard.

Sounds

Sound is one of the most important things in a game, but I was so disappointed with MM. Most of the tunes were re-used from OoT! I would have liked it if Nintendo at least have made them remixes.

Are Nintendo getting lazy or something?

Yes I know it wasn't all the tunes that were re-used, there were some new ones as well (except for the overworld theme, that hasn't changed much over the past few games but at least it was a different version from previous games) like the music in Clocktown. Some of the re-used tunes were, Lost woods, Zora's Domain, Goron's cave and the list can go on. I just hope the tunes in ZGC are new or remixes!

Good Ending?

Let's just put it one way...the ending to MM was worse than the one in OoT! In fact it wasn't diabolical like it was in OoT slightly different, it was short and downright boring!

I'll just over it briefly, the giants push the moon back up, the skull kid moans about not having any friends and the Mask Man says bye, that's it really.

The credits were like OoT's, the camera flies around Termina, but at least this time you actually see some of the characters in it and they're not dancing around!

After watching the ending it just felt as if there was something missing and it the game hadn't really ended.

The ending to previous games have been good, but over the past few years and looking back onto the two 64 games, it feels as if Nintendo have lost their touch slightly.

Conclusion

Where shall I start, in every sub-heading I've mentioned something bad about the game, this is just clear evidence that MM should have been work on for longer or they should have waited until they released the GC, then put MM on that. Maybe they should have made MM cel shaded (hmm....I wonder what Oni Link would look like as a bubble with legs).
