"Is Nintendo doing the right thing making 'Cel-da'?"

In this investigation I will be investigating one of the most burning issues in Zelda history, the issue of ZeldaGC! So I put this questions forward for me to answer, are Nintendo doing the right thing by making ZeldaGC Cel-shaded?

I have used mostly my own opinions on this subject matter, but also I've also considered other peoples thoughts about the game.

Now it's all good and well moaning about this subject, but isn't really going to help. People have seen one movie clip of ZeldaGC and have made the judgment that it's going to be a whole load of rubbish. But how do they know that? Have they seen the whole of the games game play? Storyline? Sounds? And the answer is, NO! Okay fair enough, Nintendo have changed something in one of the best loved series of games around and you're all very disappointed with what has happened.

But then I wonder how many of those people who are dismissing ZeldaGC (calling it a load of rubbish etc...) going to actually buy the game?

And the truth is a lot of them will buy the game!

I've said this on many occasions, but you need to give it a chance. There is no point in dismissing a game by its graphics!

Now it's really all up to Nintendo if they want to continue making ZeldaGC Cel-shaded, sadly it isn't up to us with this decision, we've complained and complained.

Rumors have started about Nintendo changing their minds and then those rumors have been totally squashed by Nintendo themselves.

Even I wouldn't mind seeing the realistic approach to the games, but what's more important, Graphics? Or everything else?

Now there's a question that really needs to be answered by you.

There's a huge part in me that wants to see ultra realistic Link to come back, but there also a huge part in me that wants to see how the cel-shaded approach will actually work. Games are not all about graphics, I'm sorry to say this, but ultra realistic Link looked a bit like a weirdo (even though now he looks like a bubble on legs, still quite weird), games are meant to be fun, exciting, different, if games companies were bringing out the same type of game every time round it would get rather boring. And this is something Nintendo are doing, they bringing different types of games out and approaching old games with different ideas.

Nintendo may have this "Kiddie" image these days, but it doesn't mean they will be making rubbish games; I've always liked a game that's fun and makes me laugh regardless of what other people think about the game.

Now we've all seen what Cel Damage is like and by the screenshots I've seen it doesn't seem that it's aimed at the younger generation, but instead it's aimed at teenagers, and that's a cel-shaded game! So why can't the Zelda series be cel-shaded? It's only a type of graphics that developers are using these days. Like I said earlier, it would be totally boring and repetitive if every game is the same.

Yes okay, you'd least expect the Zelda series of games to become cel-shaded and it caught many people by surprise at SpaceWorld 2001. Some of the immediate comments and thoughts people came out with were quite astonishing, things like, "it looks like a Disney cartoon" and "Forget about that *censored* it looks like a whole load of *censored* I'm not going to get that!" were coming straight out of peoples mouths. To be perfectly honest, when I first saw the movie of the game even I wasn't very happy with the new look, but with most things I don't like the look or idea of I always give them a chance and since the day I've seen the movie clip I have been giving careful thought about the game and how it may end up being like.

Now I have seen many people's opinions about the game and one that seems very interesting is by MagicFox.

This person isn't happy about and does not like the initial look of the game, but she does like the idea of game having a cartoonish look once again. She believes that it would be a good idea to use the Z3 instruction booklets illustrations, because they are "already in a childish style". Also she strongly believes that the Zelda games shouldn't just be based on teenagers, even when MagicFox was at a young age she enjoyed the games very much.

"I myself enjoyed it because of the "hero rescuing the princess" and as being a child I was so apt in the cartoon-ish aspect as well."

MagicFox also believes that it is wrong of Nintendo to pursue the idea of this mature idea, which is why she is more for the Cel-Sheded approach.

That is one really good idea, I will not comment any further about this idea because like these investigations are my opinion, this idea is someone else's opinion.

What I would like to see is that Nintendo actually make a really good storyline (preferably a lot better than the one for OoT) to this game, have great sounds and Music and not re-use old ideas. This would make the game really good regardless of the fact it's cel-shaded.

Below are actually some comments I have said in the past but slightly edited and bringing the points up to date:

Now the idea of the ZeldaGC being cel-shaded lies in the brain of Nintendo's genius, Shigeru Miyamoto.

He must have thought hard about changing the Legend of Zelda series into the cartoon. It just isn't like Shigeru Miyamoto to turn around and change things without thinking if the game would be a success and a step closer to the future of gaming.

It's just a case of waiting and seeing how it all turns out, no game will ever be perfect but maybe this cartoon image will be Nintendo's big chance of bringing out one of the greatest games in history.

Now this is what puzzles me, those who remember the SNES days must be able to remember "A Link to the Past"...is it me or did the game look like a cartoon? Taking into consideration that the SNES was only capable of producing those types of graphics, Link looked like something out of a Disney game/movie.

Maybe Shigeru Miyamoto thought about how great a success the SNES game was and converted the style of the game onto the GC, thus making a possible great game.

But some people will still say that Nintendo have done the wrong thing and should bring back the mature Zelda look.

Now that was what I said in the past. It would really be interesting to see how many complaints Nintendo have received from angry fans, because it seems that Nintendo have blocked out their complaints and pulling through and focusing on the game.

Conclusion: Well what can I say? Nintendo are the ones who are making the game, not us, we the fans have complained but they ignored the complaints. Maybe Nintendo have something up their sleeve and aren't going to show us yet. People are still going to complain and with Nintendo not releasing any more pictures of the game it's actually quite hard to judge the game. All people are complaining about is the fact that it's cel-shaded. All I can say is good luck Nintendo!
