Twilight Princess: Characters
This article will be in the same format as the Enemies of Twilight Princess article was, so if you’re looking for a screenshot for a particular character, please click the screenshot link below the name of each of the characters. Hope you enjoy!
1. Link - Screenshot
- Not surprisingly, Link is again the main character in Twilight Princess. However, instead of growing up in Hyrule, Link has been raised as a boy from a ranch village called Toaru Village that’s in a separate country. Twilight Princess is the second game in which Link starts off without the usual green outfit, opting instead to sport an earthy looking tunic. He’s now about the age of 16, and content to living his life as a farmhand. However, the mayor one day calls upon Link to represent Toaru Village at the Hyrule Festival, held annually in the country of Hyrule. Links agrees to go, and the adventure begins. Once again, Link will call upon a horse, but this time by using a piece of grass. He’ll also borrow the talents of a hawk.
2. Wolf Link - Screenshot
- Wolf Link is what Link is transformed into when he enters the Twilight Realm. As wolves can only see the world in grey, Nintendo has made the decision to portray the Twilight Realm in dark shades of grey and black, with only a minimal amount of color. We also know that sound will be important in the Twilight Realm, as wolves have extraordinary hearing. Wolf Link will definitely have different abilities to Link, and, as it does not have a sword, will attack differently too, using its companion, Midna, and its teeth. When it first awakens in the Twilight Realm, it is chained up in a castle.
3. Midna - Screenshot
- Making her debut in Twilight Princess, Midna is shrouded in mystery. Midna is Link's companion during his time spent in the Twilight Realm. She finds and rescues Wolf Link from the castle, and from then on decides to ride on his back. They work together to destroy the Twilight and defeat enemies. Midna definitely has an evil look about her, and many wonder if she is perhaps using Link to her own ends. She has a strange helmet on with a colorful hand/flame that is used for attacks. As she is only seen with Wolf Link in the Twilight Realm, it is unknown if she cannot leave, or if she takes on some other form when Link enters Hyrule.
4. Zelda - Screenshot
- What would a Zelda game be without its namesake? Zelda can be found within the Twilight Realm, but is unable to stop it spreading across Hyrule. She is the cloaked figure that is seen in some trailers. It is believed that she can retain her form in the Twilight because she wears that cloak, which may hold back the powers of the Twilight Realm. She is once again the damsel in distress that you will be saving, and could also be the Twilight Princess. She supposedly has some connection with the reason why Link is transformed into a Wolf. There has been some artwork released of Zelda holding a sword, so perhaps we can expect her to be taking a more active role in this game, like in Ocarina of Time.
5. Ilia - Screenshot
- Another new character to the Zelda series, Ilia is one of Link’s closest friends. She is also extremely close with nature, and heals Link’s horse when it is hurt jumping fences. Ilia is also the daughter of the mayor, but would rather spend time in the wild. She is kidnapped with Colin by enemies and this leads to Link trying to rescue her. There have been reports that Ilia is a love interest for Link, but only time will tell.
6. Mayor - Screenshot
- The man on the right of this piece of art is the mayor, Ilia’s father. He seems to be in charge of pay and business, as he docks Link's wages for losing a goat at one point. He decides to send Link to Hyrule as the representative at the annual Summit, but when Link injures his horse jumping fences, it looks as though Link will not be able to go. The Mayor is scolded by his daughter, Ilia, for suggesting Link should make such a journey while his horse is hurt, and the Mayor looks guiltily away. The Mayor also mentions a character called Fado, who appeared in another Zelda game.
7. Colin - Screenshot
- Ilia’s other friend in the village is Colin. Colin is a young boy in the village, looking to be about 10. He’s shy, and this causes him to be picked on by Tarro. While his human relationships might be off, Colin’s very in tune with nature and his surroundings, as the animals in the game have no problem being near him. Colin leads Link to the healing pool where Link’s horse and Ilia are, and is captured by enemies along with Ilia. In a later part of the story, Colin is seen tied to a lance carried by enemies. Link will eventually save Colin, but it is still unknown what happens to Ilia.
8. Tarro - Screenshot
- Along with her friend, Tarro bullies Colin around. In the artwork above, Tarro is the girl on the right. She’ll block you from getting to the healing pool, and demands you show her some sword moves. You’ll show her them on a practice wooden dummy sticking out of the ground, and Tarro will imitate you with a stick. Afterwards, she’ll leave you alone. Later on, someone will ask you show to her the spin move.
9. Villagers - Screenshot
- There are many villagers in Toaru Village. One is a mother who lost her baby by setting its cradle down in the river, and would like your help in retrieving it. Always the gentleman, Link obliges and hops in a canoe. Another is the shopkeeper, who lost her cat. It turns out that the cat is on top of her shop, and Link calls upon a hawk to scare it down. Another villager will teach you how to L-target, while another taunts you and urges you to try and steal his sword.
There’s many diverse characters in Twilight Princess; some new, some old. As you journey throughout the land, you’ll surely discover many more than the ones listed here. As always, feel free to discuss this in the forums, or drop me an email and let me know what you thought about this.
