New PH news and details released |
May 31, 2007, 7:38 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
The following information was translated by Patricia for The Hylia:
STORY Just a couple of months after Link and Tetra's pirates set sail to find a new land, Tetra discovers a suspicious ghost ship and boards it all alone. Then she finds herself in trouble and she can't leave the ship. Link tries to rescue Tetra, but he falls to the sea and faints. When he wakes up, he finds himself in an unknown island (Shiwan saved him). While looking for clues to find the ghost ship, Link unexpectedly meets Lineback, who's after the treasure of the ghost ship. Since both are looking for the ghost ship, they decide to join forces.
There's also a prophecy that worries a certain fortune-teller: "An evil darkness... A huge ocean... And the voice of a sacred light."
GAME MECHANICS The player will follow these steps to advance in the game: 1) Explore the underground temple 2) Find a new sea chart 3) Go to a new island 4) Beat the monsters on the island and get some sand of time 5) Continue to explore the temple and repeat steps 2-5 6) Find the ghost ship?
When you enter the cursed underground temple, the time left before Link starts to lose his strength will appear on the upper-left corner of the upper screen.
The sea charts you find in the temple will allow you to sail new waters, and the deeper the charts are in the temple, the farther you'll be able to sail to and discover new islands.
In the islands, you'll look for clues about the ghost ship, solve puzzles, explore dungeons, get new items, and beat monsters.
CONTROLS If you touch with the stylus a point far from Link, he'll run there (and he'll jump automatically if needed), whereas if you touch a near spot, he'll walk there.
Touching the arrows that appear on the screen will make Link move objects in that direction.
Link has three different sword attacks, depending on the way you move the stylus.

Eight new PH screens - 1 Box art |
May 31, 2007, 7:28 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
Today's Updates: Eight new screenshots have been added to the Phantom Hourglass gallery. VERY nice screens, too.
Also, this has been forthcoming for some time and I'm sorry I'm so late with it: Phantom Hourglass Japanese box art.
In my next update I will be posting some news that was released that I never posted on here. Better late than never is my motto. I would have posted it sooner but my hands were tied with the Mp3 Player. ^_^ How's everyone enjoying that, btw?

I made it in time! Mp3 Player Launch! |
May 28, 2007, 6:01 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
Today's Updates: The MCLoZ Mp3 Player has officially launched!
Please be sure to read the page for not only any possible extra information on the official soundtracks loaded in but for rules and our disclaimer!
Remember, you need quicktime to be able to make the player work, you will also need javascript enabled AND you will need to turn off your popup blocker or add mcloz to your pop up blocker safe list.
And again, be sure to thank the Mp3 Hosts: Zelda Ultimate, Rauru's Return, and Hylian Help Desk. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible!
I hope you guys enjoy it. This player took me hours to code and design so that it would not only be viewer friendly, but also fun. ^_^ And remember, changing the background on the player will not interfere with your music track!
ABOVE ALL, YOU MUST REMEMBER THESE TRACKS ARE NOT FOR DOWNLOAD!! There is no reason for downloading them. You can take the player everywhere you go.

Huh? by Hylian_Legend
Despite its small size, it's definitely one of the cutest artworks I've seen. Of course, though, that could just be because I'm a little partial to Minish Cap artwork. But, it's so adorable!
MCLoZ Spotlight
Today, I will be discussing our very own Link's Infinite List of Torture
One of the more popular pages on MCLoZ, it is now updated every Saturday. What started out a few years ago as a small practical joke, it has errupted to something very large. While at first only covering Ocarina of Time, the page now covers all games and spans over 300 submittions by visitors.
That's right, visitors. The whole list is all submittions contributed by visitors like you doing the one favorite pasttime that everyone enjoys in a Zelda game - hurting our beloved Link, perhaps even to the point of death!
The items can be as simple as "stand still and get hit" or they can span towards something more creative such as positioning yourself on a cliff and letting an enemy not only hit you for one source of damage, but also manage to throw you off the cliff.
There are no submittions that are ever turned down - unless they are so poor in grammar and spelling that I can't understand them - so be sure to send your contributions in today. Remember, though, only one torutre item per form submitted, but there are no limit on how many forms you can submit! So, if you have fifty methods of torturing Link, then submit fifty forms and they'll be added up that next Saturday!

There's a LOT of past items submitted to me that I never got put up. However, they are mostly all for Zelda Secrets and Oddities (only one toture item), so I decided to split them over these next two days, though tomorrow features the NEW stuff.

Fan Site Review
Today I have chosen to review a good friend of mine's website. And please note, that I do keep these things short and sweet because It's not a "real" critique and I'm not out to bash anyone. ^_^ I really want to give these sites some wonderful attention and hope that my scores will entice them to work on the areas where they need to, so I will not post any comments up about these sites. If I reviewed them it's because I like them and hope they will strive to do better!

Fan Site News
Actually, we do have some very BIG news that happened on the 19th that I saddly missed last weekend. The Missing Link has officially announced the close of Zelda Blog, a popular article based site that had become a staple for the community. You can read TML's official statement over here.
We will miss you Zelda Blog! And TML, I hope to see you continuing your work over at Zelda Legends!
Edit: Nath of the currently down-for-maintance, yet well known Zelda Domain is looking for staff members for his site. The positions he is looking to fill includes fan artists, audio news updater, game content writers, and varios other such positions. For more information, please read this ZE forum post.
And remember, if you are a site owner and have some news or anything that you would like me to post in this section, be sure to e-mail it in. You can submit a pre-written article, or just tell me the specifics and I'll post about it! All sites are welcome!
Next, I wanted to bring your attention to three very wonderful webmasters and their sites. Zelda Ultimate, Rauru's Return, and Hylian Help Desk. Together, our four sites will be bringing you a list of 798 mp3s for you to listen to. DOWNLOAD IS NOT ENCOURAGED, HOWEVER!! Each site will be given the link to the player so they may be able to host it on their sites as well! It's going to be wonderful. I hope you all look forward to it and visit the sites of these wonderful people who sacrified some of their webspace and bandwidth in their endeavor to get this project underway.
Upcoming MCLoZ Feature
Aww, it's time to talk about MCLoZ already? Hrrrm, an upcoming features of MCLoZ? Well, you will notice that at this time, MCLoZ does not have a corner for Fan Fiction, huh? I'm sorry about that! Let me explain what's going to be done about that. Right now I am looking into some program or coding that will enable you the viewers to not only post up your stories with no interference from me, but will enable you to be able to go back and edit and do whatever! This project will not be for another month or so, yet, so I hope you will be patient and will look forward to it. It's going to be great! ... If I can get it off the ground *sigh*.

Where have I been all this time? |
May 25, 2007, 7:12 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
Hey, guys, sorry for the absentee. Work and life hit me hard. I still have to get up the new PH boxart that was released along with some tidbits released over at The Hylia, but all in due time. That probably won't be released until later today or tomorrow amongst Fan Weekend.
So - what's going on with the Mp3 Player. To put it simply this is what happened. I mentioned that there's 798 files, right? Stupid me has been so comfortable on Zelda Legends' wonderful server that I forgot to even think about space. I tried to start uploading things when I got a message that said "disk quota exceeded". I ran out of space on my server and my host, understandably, didn't want to give me more for mp3s that take up one whole gig!
BUT DO NOT DESPAIR! I'm sure my last message has already done that, but I bring you tidings of great joy! The Mp3 Player is still GOING to happen!! I put in a request for people to help me share the load of these mp3s and the response I got was astounding. XD I have to thank you guys so much! In the end, Zelda Ultimate, Rauru's Return, and Hylian Help Desk are the ones I chose to help me host my files.
Unfortunately, while I'm still going to try to make it for this Monday, this might push back the release date of the Mp3 player. So the release of the Mp3 Player is either going to be next week or at the latest, on the 1st.
I did want to mention this before, too. Next Saturdy is my birthday (June 2nd). There will be no Fan Submittion weekend scheduled for June 2nd-3rd. Sorry guys ^_^;. But don't worry, the weekend after that just means there's going to be twice as many oddities and tortures to put up!

MCLoZ Spotlight
For today's Spot Light, I'm going to point out one of MCLoZ's kewler features. Our Beta Zelda Files!
Just the other day I added in twenty new images to this gallery and opened a new section for The Twilight Princess game. But, what exactly is this section? Well, as the name suggests, it is pre-release game shots. Images that we never got to see in our final game product. All of them have something mysterious in the image.
However, something that you are unlikely to find in the gallery, more often than not, is Beta Quest shots. What's the difference? Beta Quest images are acheived with help from a Game Shark. Sorry, I have a serious prejuidice against these marvels. While I believe some could be real, like if you managed to come across some mysterious cutscene that plays out, for the most part, I am an extreme sceptic against what is created. The Game Shark pulls out random codes in the game that have no originial place and it feeds them somewhere into the game so that they will be visible. What you get? A mysterious pre-constructed pedastool of time that's sitting in front of King Zora, for example. However, while the pedastool is a marvel, its placement is not correct. It was just stuck there.
Ok, enough ranting about what you won't find and why - there's certainly more than enough to keep your mind occupied when you look at these shots. Our Ocarina of Time section has over 100 images. We also have Majora's Mask, and Oracle series section. Also upcoming, I will be adding in Minish Cap Beta Files, along with even more shots for Twilight Princess.
Here's an example of something you'll find in our gallery: Majora's Mask Clock Town's East Exit. Much different than our version, right? And that's not all that's in the galleries. Check things out. There's some really crazy things in those files.
Next month: the image contribution section of Beta Files will once again be reopened and ready to receive any Beta images you guys might have for us lieing around on your computers. ^_^ And remember, be sure to register and you can post comments or information on these files! Registration is easy and so much fun!

Start of Fan Submittion Weekends! |
May 19, 2007, 8:35 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
Today's Updates: Link's Infinite List of Torture Items 323-327 submittted by JrP, WhyMustYouKillLink?, Penguin dude Rebirth, and OUCH!.
Fan Submittion Weekends
So, this is how things are going to go to make it more convenient for everyone. Saturdays you get Link's Infinite List of Torture items and on Sundays you get Zelda Oddities! But, that's not all, on Saturdays I will also be featuring Fan Site Critiques, generally Zelda sites, but I will not mind doing one outside Zelda. I will also be putting up any Site news that has either been contributed to me through e-mail or that I have noticed. And last but not least, I will discuss an upcoming feature for MCLoZ! Sundays will feature a Fan Art Focus and I will then discuss something that is up on MCLoZ that you guys might not realize is there! ^_^ It's going to be fun! I hope this will spice weekends up. Just be sure to watch it, regular updates can happen at any time! So, let's get started!

Fan Site News
A lot has been happening in the community if no one has been paying attention. First and most important: Zelda Legends has made a serious comeback! w00t!! I was beginning to fear they were never returning!
Second, we have a site merger and a new design! Zelda Chronicles has been merged into Zelda Dungeon and they have a fantastic and BEAUTIFUL design (that I really envy). Good job Mas and Chrono! Hehehe, that means I've got to take ZC's button down. I think while I'm at it, I'll go through and clear up my affiliates.
Upcoming MCLoZ Feature
So, it has come down to this? The Mp3 Player launches on the 28th. I have been advertising this feature for quite a while on MCLoZ and it's what I've been so quietly working on behind the scenes. One word: beautiful. The player design is beautiful as well as the songs that have been loaded in.
Currently there are 671 tracks available to play through ALL of the Zelda games (except the spin-off series). All of them are stuffed into 12 albums.
** There's just one problem. While a few of these are Twilight Princess tracks, Max has been unable to get the FULL and TRUE official Soundtrack for Twilight Princess that is 3 CDs long and 182 tracks. So, here's my call out to my viewers. If ANYONE has this album with ALL tracks sitting on their computer, would you please e-mail me IMMEDIATELY. I would love to have these songs up on my player. The alternative... I downloaded a fan made album with over 100 tracks that, I think, some are official from the CDs while others are ripped from the game. It's not really want I want, but I'm not launching this player without Twilight Princess tracks!
Oh, and on a side note. I'm just launching this player with only a select few albums. I have other albums laying around for me to put up, but I think I will leave those for another date. It's not easy putting all of these up into my player and I only have until the end of this week to finish up the project and start loading it all up onto my FTP. o_O Dear GOD I am not looking forward to that project which I will be dividing over three days.
You guys are just absolutely going to love the Mp3 player. I promise! No, it's not replacing the Midi Player. Actually, I'm not updating the toolbar and this player gets its own page for a various number of reasons. You'll get over it. Just remember, this player is design so you don't have to close it. ^_^ No, you won't WANT to close it. I promise! The darn thing took me several days to code not including loading the tracks on. If you've kept up with my live joural you might have even seen me ranting about the bloody thing and the troubles it has presented.
Until tomorrow then!

Possible Death of Nintendo Power? |
May 14, 2007, 11:29 PM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
It seems that IGN and several other sites have posted about a rumor that's been flying around concerning Nintendo Power magazine, the famous gaming magazine that many of us have grown up with. While you could get more indepth information over at The Hylia, the gist of it goes is that Nintendo Power will either see a complete revamp in its sales strategy or it's going to get thrown out the window and will become one more piece of fabled glory in the historical past of gaming. The upside is that this does not seem to be affecting the online brand.
Ok, so it's time for my own personal opinions:
Most of you know by now that I am going through college right now for a journalism major. I want to write for gaming magazines. Nintendo Power was one of those tentalizing goals to just aim for. So, let's just say this news is going to be at least slightly life altering for me and it's going to cut me very deeply. On the plus side, though, since it does not seem to be affecting the internet portion of the magazine, I could still have SOME hope of getting onto some part of a staff. -_- Still, it was great to imagine myself going to a popular game convention of any sort wearing a press pass that was funding by a gaming company such as Nintend Power.
... I think I'm going to go cry now over in the corner.

New PH information released! |
May 10, 2007, 5:54 PM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
The Hylia and its translator Patricia, have managed to uncover some more Phantom Hourglass information from a magazine article going around the internet. Here is the information taken directly from The Hylia.
- It does confirm Tetra's the kidnapped person Link's looking for. - Lineback cooperates with Link because they have a common interest, so he allows Link to board his ship to continue his quest. Actually, Lineback's after the rumored treasure that's kept within the ghost ship. - The fairy's name is Shiera (sp?) - Shiwan (sp?), the mysterious old man from the pic will help Link out. - The sea charts hidden in the underground temple will let you get to new islands. You'll only be able to explore the temple as long as the effects of the phantom hourglass last. - Your strength will die down when you enter the temple. Dispel the curse with the effects of the phantom hourglass. - Explore new islands and defeat the bosses to gather the sand of time, which will extend the duration of the effects of the phantom hourglass so that you can explore the depths of the temple.
My Impressions:
So, is there only one temple for you to explore and in order to get through and stay longer, you have to defeat bosses on the islands? I'm kinda going to be disappointed if there's only going to be one dungeon. But, I'm sure they wouldn't do that to us. Surely they would have learned from their mistakes with The Wind Waker.... right? *Sigh*
Anyways, forgive the slight lack of updates. I am actually hard at work on the upcoming MCLoZ mp3 Player. I have decided that the tracks will not be downloadable which means that I will now expand the list to include Twilight Princess tunes. I've still got so much work to do on, but I'm sure you're going to love this player which is the Midi Player x3! I promise, you're not going to want to close this player, and keep in mind that these players are made in a pop up form to allow you to take them OFF the site - heck off the net. As long as you don't close the window, the player will not close when you leave the site.
The MCLoZ Mp3 Player is sleighted for released: May 28th! Hope you look forward to it!

A post about .... news posts |
May 8, 2007, 9:01 PM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
| Today's Updates: None - *sigh* Finals are the worst!
Actually, there is a small update. I have finally put up the link at the bottom that leads to the Coranto official site like which should have been there from the very beginning. I'm doing this actually for a very specific reason:
BECAUSE I HATE CUTENEWS!
And forgive me if the producers see this, I mean nothing against you personally and hope you will forgive my views.
However, my main thing against it is that while it's a great "simple" program, some of the functionalities with it are absolutely THE WORST. The only thing that I really like about it is the comments system. However, there is no preference system to it and a lot of the features are just really limited and restrictive.
May I encourage some others to look into attempting Coranto? There are addons for just about everything. It's what I've always used. Yes, there is a way to set up a comments system, too, but I'm not interested in it myself.
The only downside is that the initial set up can be a pain. PAY ATTENTION DIRECTLY to every single thing it tells you in the instructions.
Now, I don't know much about perl or php, but so far, perl I feel I can manipulate to my design as much as I like.
I get a lot of compliments about the side bar News Infocenter. Tch, it was a simple thing to program once you get your mind around certain ideas and how to manipulate things. However, that's the thing. You have to have some/alot of experience with html and programming styles. However, for some of the more serious websites, I don't see why they wouldn't want to try it and really make their updates that much more sophisticated. And if you have problems - simply e-mail me and I will do my best to help IF I HAVE THE TIME. However, if you do post on the forums, beware, some of the programmers (*cough* Para Head *cough*) are absolute JERKS. But, it's worth it, in my eyes.
I just feel there's way too many sites using cutenews and it's not that good of a news system - for newbies maybe and I support it in that light, but otherwise, I think there's far more that you could use.
Next up!
Staff Member Request
Ok, there's really a lot more of these that I have that I still want and updating the staff members needed page is on my to do list, but right now I'm interested in taking on someone who might be interested in posting Gaming News. If you are interested, send me an e-mail at webmaster@mcloz.net and I will interview you and discuss things with you and see if you are worthy for the job.

Beta Zelda Files and Spin Offs |
May 7, 2007, 9:15 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
Today's Updates: First, the first gaming article for our Zelda Spin-offs section is written. Tingle RPG has successfully been reviewed and posted. These are just small articles keep in mind, as obviously I've not played them. I will try my best to represent the games.
Bigger than that today, though, is the launch of a subsection in one of my favorite sections to work on for the site. Twilight Princess now has a section in The Beta Zelda Files. 20 Images have been added and commented on. Remember, commentary can be be added by registered users and if anyone has extra information, post it up and I will add it in the main description for the file.
*Phew* I'm beat. Now I have to run off and start studying for finals. *Pouts* Also, one last mention to people submitting things for the Zelda Secrets and Oddities. If you send in an obscure trick or even a glitch, I do test these or have other people test them before I add them up. Do not try to submit anything that suggests something such as "Use a deku stick to beat Ganon in one shot" or something like that expect that it's going to be added up. It's not. Not without some serious proof that it works.

Article Archives is now re-opened! |
May 6, 2007, 1:44 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
Today's Updates: The Zelda Article Archives is now re-opened in the new design. I also took down two links from the side: the advents and the MCLoZ timeline theory. They aren't gone forever, but just until an undetermined time in the far-off future.
In other news, the submittion forms for Link's Infinite List of Torture and Zelda Secrets and Oddities sections are reopened. HOWEVER, whatever is submitted will not be posted until the 19th!!
^_^ Enjoy! Fill my e-mail box just PLEASE PLEASE try to use good grammar skills!
I have already started commencing work on the next Twilight Princess gaming section. My little sister Clarissa is helping me with it a little. However, the both of us have run into a few speed bumps. So frustrating! Think as we are working on it I'm going to work on another section that isn't so intensive as this is proving to be. *Sigh* How frustrating!!

E3 and two future DS titles - Updated |
May 3, 2007, 6:33 AM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
-This article was updated upon at 12:30pm.-
E3 Gaming Convention Downsize
So, it's pretty much around the net now, and for convenience sake, I'm really just going to source The Hylia on a lot of this (they are a good site, and I source them a lot, I know LOL), but it seems last year's announcement of the demise of E3 is about half way true.
E3 is going mini style. That's right. When companies could expect huge stalls to dispaly their latest and upcoming software, they are now each stuck in a small 20x20 booth stalls - and that's just for the bigger companies: Nintendo, Sony, Electronic Arts, Capcom, Vivendi, Namco Bandai, THQ, Sony Online, SEGA, Konami, Square Enix. And everyone else just gets small meeting rooms. .... That sucks!
Wisely, companies like Nintendo are going to have much bigger venues at surrounding hotels. I'm sure the hotels are all like "w00t", especially as Nintendo rented two big ballrooms, on at 700 square feet and another at 1200.
Tch, really disappointing to me, because one of my goals as I work to become a gaming journlist was to eventually be asked to go to E3 to represent the people that I work for.
Harvest Moon? - Rune Factory
Ok, moving along. Kingdom Hearts aside, here's another personal gaming interest that has caught my attention. Harvest Moon has always been a big love of mine and I have devoted many hours to Friends of Mineral Town despite the fact that the two cartridges I initially bought now erase constantly on me the moment I get married (I don't know what's wrong and I find it strange that it's BOTH that do it to me at the same place in the game). I was not interested in getting the DS Harvest Moon because I've heard a lot of problems with the game freezing and that it was more or less FoMT remade.
However, this morning, I found these two games: Natsume's Coming Soon. Since I do not have a PSP, I won't concentrate on Innocent Life as much, though, if you like Sci-Fi, that's your game - and I'm not into Sci-Fi, really.
However, Rune Factory caught my attention. As The Hylia states, it's a Final Fantasy meets Harvest Moon deal. Your sheep and cows are now monsters that you must befriend, and the evil moles are now monsters out to kill you. It's actually quite beautiful looking and even implements a few talking voices.
Meh, well videos speak louder than words and the website has two.

Yet four more PH images... |
May 2, 2007, 7:55 PM EST by Maxine MagicFox |
|
Four more new images have been added to the Phantom Hourglass gallery. These are more shots taken from the Famitsu website, so will be under Famitsu Scans.
There were more shots listed on that page, but they were repeats of what had already been released. However, they did appear to be of higher quality, but not so high that I was interested in reposting them in the gallery again.

On a more minor, personal note, Kingdom Hearts will also be releasing with its own trading card set here in America. Oh dear God... CHOICES! And I've never collected trading cards before! .... But, both games are so beautifully depicted!! LOL, ok sorry for the KH plug, I was really just commenting on how I'm going to be torn between purchasing both of them. ^_^
