Solutions to Block Puzzles

Below is listed, in a spoiler-free method, the solutions to all of the ice block puzzles and a few other puzzles you will find around Hyrule. While I only have the Gamecube version of the game and wrote this guide to that version, I went back through and copied my instructions and reversed left and right so that my directions should now be compatible with the Wii version as well. While I would normally have told you guys to do this your ownselves, I felt that some of these descriptions were confusing enough without you needing to fuss about turning left into right and east into west.

Sacred Grove Statues

Not necessarily a block puzzle, but during the game you will run into an extremely annoying puzzle where you must move two large statues across a series of platforms in order to get them into the correctly marked spots. The statues move according to how you move. One statue will perfectly mime you while the other will do the opposite of whatever it is you are doing. And if one of them lands on you - the puzzle is completely reset.

GCN Solution: Right, down, left, left, up, right, up, up, right, down, down, left, and up.
Wii Solution: Left, down, right, right, up, left, up, up, left, down, down, right, and up.

Snowpeak Ice Block Puzzle #1

The first puzzle is actually pretty simple, you just need to move one of those huge blocks onto a small switch to open a door.

GCN Solution: Start by pushing the crate in the southwest corner across to the right into the southeast area. Then push the crate in the northeast corner across so that it touches the frozen crate. Stand behind that same crate and push it to the south. Then push this same crate east one space so that it hits the first crate. Now push this crate one more time south onto the floor switch.

Wii Solution: Start by pushing the crate in the southeast corner across to the left into the southwest area. Then push the crate in the northwest corner across so that it touches the frozen crate. Stand behind that same crate and push it to the south. Then push this same crate west one space so that it hits the first crate. Now push this crate one more time south onto the floor switch.

Snowpeak Ice Block Puzzle #1

The second puzzle is actually a revisit of the same Ice Block Puzzle, only now that you have your Ball and Chain you can break up the ice to be able to push another block and move it onto another switch.

GCN Solution: Move the block in the northwest corner down. Then, get behind the southmost block positioned on the switch and push it upwards. Move the first block now in the southwest corner to the right so that it hits a third block. Now push it upwards into the second block. Get on the east side of the second block and push it into the northwest corner and then push it down to the south and finally to the east so that it hits the third stationary block. And now, finally, push it upwards so that it slides into the first block and onto the switch! Now, while that door is open the other one closed back up because there is no block on the first switch. To fix this, push the northmost/first block to the left, then push it down, and then push it to the right so that it hits the third block, and then push it down onto the switch.

Wii Solution: Move the block in the northeast corner down. Then, get behind the southmost block positioned on the switch and push it upwards. Move the first block now in the southeast corner to the left so that it hits a third block. Now push it upwards into the second block. Get on the west side of the second block and push it into the northeast corner and then push it down to the south and finally to the west so that it hits the third stationary block. And now, finally, push it upwards so that it slides into the first block and onto the switch! Now, while that door is open the other one closed back up because there is no block on the first switch. To fix this, push the northmost/first block to the right, then push it down, and then push it to the left so that it hits the third block, and then push it down onto the switch.

Lanayru Province Ice Block Puzzle #1

For more information, please visit the Heart Piece guide (currently this information is not included). Simply put, located in the Lanaryu Province there is a series of three block puzzles that must be solved in order to received a Piece of Heart. Here is the solution to the first puzzle.

GCN Solution: Move the block in the northwest corner to the right. Then move the block in the southeast corner to the left so that it hits a third block, then move it upwards. Now return to the first block and push it down and to the left into the third block. Next push it upwards so that it hits the second block. Push the second block right into the northeast corner and then push it down and then to the left so that it hits the third block. Finally push this block up and onto the switch!

Wii Solution: Move the block in the northeast corner to the left. Then move the block in the southwest corner to the right so that it hits a third block, then move it upwards. Now return to the first block and push it down and to the right into the third block. Next push it upwards so that it hits the second block. Push the second block left into the northwest corner and then push it down and then to the right so that it hits the third block. Finally push this block up and onto the switch!

Lanayru Province Ice Block Puzzle #2

When the gates open, run into the next chamber to encounter this block puzzle which is slightly more difficult as there are now two switches you have to get the blocks onto!

GCN Solution: Move the block in the southeast corner to the left so that it hits a second block. Get behind the second block in the southwest corner and push it upwards into a third block. Get beside the third block and push it to the right. Return to the second block and push it up into that northwest corner. Then push it to the right so that it hits the third block. Finally, push it down and onto the first and southmost switch.

Return to the first block which is hanging around on the southern edge and push it all the way to the left and then up and then to the right so that it hits the third block and then push it down into the second block which is now resting on the first switch. Go up to the third block and push it down. Now push that third block to the right and then up. Finally, push it to the left so that it hits the first block and falls on the second switch.

Wii Solution: Move the block in the southwest corner to the right so that it hits a second block. Get behind the second block in the southeast corner and push it upwards into a third block. Get beside the third block and push it to the left. Return to the second block and push it up into that northeast corner. Then push it to the left so that it hits the third block. Go up to the third block and push it down. Now push that third block to the left and then up. Finally, push it to the right so that it hits the first block and falls on the second switch.

Lanayru Province Ice Block Puzzle #3

Finally we are now on the third and final block puzzle needed to solved in order to receive that Heart Piece. While this puzzle now only has one switch, it is much much larger puzzle and is definitely the hardest of the three and takes a few more steps than before. Let's see if you can keep up!

GCN Solution: Go up to the block located in the southwest corner and push it up into a second block in the northwest corner. Go back down to the southeast corner and push a third block located there to the left where the first block use to be. Now push this same block upwards into the first block so that you have all three blocks now touching each other down the left side. Go up to northmost block shoved in the corner and push it all the way to the right into the northeast corner. Go back to the left edge and push the southmost block to the right and then push it up into the block you had previously moved. Go back to the left edge and push the remaining block over to the right, forcing it to bump into the block you had just previously moved.

Ok, ready for the second half? Go up to the block in the northeast corner and push it back to the left, then push it down, and then push it right so that it is now in the southeast corner. Go up to the block that is now above that one positioned on the right edge and push it up into the northeast corner, then push it left, down, and right to bump into that previous block. Finally, push it up to bump into the other block. Go up to that northmost block and push it to the left. Go back down to the southeast corner and push that block left into the southwest corner and then push it up into the other block. Finally, push that same block to the right so that it not only bumps into another block but lands on the switch.

Wii Solution: Go up to the block located in the southeast corner and push it up into a second block in the northeast corner. Go back down to the southwest corner and push a third block located there to the right where the first block use to be. Now push this same block upwards into the first block so that you have all three blocks now touching each other down the right side. Go up to the block that is now above that one positioned on the left edge and push it up into the northwest corner, then push it right, down, and left to bump into that previous block. Finally, push it up to bump into the other block. Go up to that northmost block and push it to the rght. Go back down to the southwest corner and push that block right into the southwest corner and then push it up into the other block. Finally, push that same block to the left so that it not only bumps into another block but lands on the switch.
