Malo Mart and the Castle Town Exits

There are three things that you will accomplish through this guide: open up Malo Mart in Castle Town, fix the east Castle Town bridge (remember, this guide is written for the GCN version), and open up the south exit from Castle Town into South Hyrule Field. One thing leads to another with this, so let's get started.

Malo Mart Donations

After your third temple, if you walk into Malo Mart in Kakariko Village, you will notice a goron standing in the corner asking for donations. Talking to Malo for more information reveals that they are on a missiong: to buy out a greedy shopowner in Castle Town and give better prices to all! But first, you need to repair the eastern bridge into Castle Town. The only problem with this is you will need to donate 200 Rupees to fund this project!

The quest for 200 Rupees isn't easy. It's best to take a few of your Golden Bugs to Agitha and cash them in. That makes life so much easier. Otherwise, it might be best to explore around Kakariko and other locations looking for hidden treasure chests.

The Barrel Race

After you have contributed 200 Rupees, you will now be able access the east side of Castle Town. However, Castle Town's Malo Mart isn't open, yet. Talking with the Donations Goron reveals that you now need a staggering 2000 Rupees. WAIT! Before you start resigning yourself to this quest, there is a way to make this bill MUCH MUCH lower.

Exit Malo Mart and take a right. You should notice a very aged Goron sitting cross legged on the ground. Go up and talk to him. Now that the bridge is repaired, he wants you to take some Hot Springwater to his son to help revive him and give him the stamina to work again. Accept the old Goron's challenge.

The premise of this game is simple. You have a limited amount of time to get a barrel of hot, steaming Spring Water over to the goron sitting on the newly constructed east bridge. However, if you are hit while holding the barrel or accidentally throw the barrel, it breaks and you have to go all the way back into Kakariko Village and talk to the old Goron to get another one and to try again. The best course to take while trying to complete this task is to follow the edge of the cliff. Less monsters attack you and you do not have to worry about quite so many Leevers.

When you reach the Goron on the bridge, throw the barrel on top of him to revive him. Congratulations! You succeeded in reopening the Hot Spring Water shop in Castle Town.

Opening the South Castle Town Exit

Now that you have opened this store, go in and buy some Hot Spring Water. Why would you want some? If you talked to the Goron outside the South Castle Town gate, he will tell you that if only he had some, he would be able to break through the rock barrier. Quickly purchase your Hot Spring Water and take it to this appreciative Goron. The next time you visit him, this area should hopefully be open.

Castle Town Malo Mart

Re-enter Malo Mart and talk to the Donations Goron - the cost has dropped dramatically to only a mere 200 Rupees! Go back out into the world and collect some more Golden Bugs for Agitha. Once you have made the donation, it's time to visit the new shop in Castle Town.

The shop is located in the Castle Town square in the south-eastern corner. It's a very obvious shop to spot considering that Malo's face is posted all over it. Also, if you take a look around, some of the citizens running around are carrying signs with Malo's face on it as well!

Entering the store is an interesting experience - almost scary in a way, but totally fun. Well, either way, Malo stayed true to his word: the prices are incredible - especially if you had priced these same items earlier in the game before Malo chased the previous store owner out! Further, this store has the one and the only Magic Armor for sale! The price? 598 Rupees, so you will need to save, yet again, but for this treasure, it's well worth it!
