========== • Game Beginning v.1 - Optional Cheats • ==========

If you wish, you may skip this section, but most people should find this interesting. It's a way to make the first quarter of the game more than a little bit too easy. I won't normally tell you when or which Heart Pieces to get or any other items, but this game start period demands it.

1. When the game first starts, go into the cave to get your sword. It's a nice thing to have. Now that you can fight, start traveling eastwards. As you go, try to collect at least 20 rupees. When you can go no further right, go up, and you should arrive at a cave. Inside, you can purchase bombs for 20 Rupees, or if you wish, just continue exploring and collecting bombs that enemies drop.

2. After you have purchased the bombs, go back to collecting Rupees. You will need 60 of them this time. When you have the necessary money, head back to the starting screen and go up once. Enter the cave and buy the Blue Candle.

3. Now that you have bombs and a candle, it's time for one of the more important parts of the cheat. Let's go collect three Heart Containers. Please refer to this Heart Container Guide on the site. The first three Heart Containers listed on that page are the ones you should get. Pretty slick, huh? But it's not over, yet.

4. Now that you have three more Heart Containers, which are necessary for this part, from the location where you got the 3rd listed Heart Container on the guide page, go right, up twice, left, up, and continue to the right until you come to a waterfall. Go up the staircase. The tricky part here is trying to avoid the Lynel that is guarding the cave. He will take massive damage out of you and it's hard to kill him. But somehow get by him and into the cave. Once inside you will receive the White Sword!

5. If you wish to complete your new Sword set, you can go for a Magic Shield. Normally they are quite expensive, but you only need 90 Rupees. Once you have them return to the starting screen. Now go up, left twice, up, right, up. Burn the bush that is in the corner to find the secret shop that sells Magic Shields for only 90 Rupees.

6. While this whole section is optional, this is a good thing to have anyway and I will recommend that you get it early on anyway. Go to the location where you received the first Heart Container listed on the guide. From there go right. Ignore the staircase but take the path up along the water's edge. Once again ignore the stair case and go right. Now you can go up the stair case! Above, you will meet an old man who will give you a letter. Now that you have this letter, travel back to the starting screen and go up and left three times. Enter the cave. Inside will be an Old Woman. Use the letter on her and it will unlock her Potion Shop. A very useful thing to have throughout the game since potions replenish your life the moment you run out of hearts.

7. Last but not least, the most optional part of this whole section, because it's also the hardest thing to get. You will need 250 Rupees. o_O Wow! Anyways, once you collect it, go to the Potion Shop cave mentioned above. Then go up three screens from there. Touch the center Armos in the top row to reveal a stair case. Go inside. There's a lot of expensive stuff, but mostly the Blue Ring which decreases the amount of damage you take.

So, now with bombs, a blue candle, three extra Heart Containers, White Sword, Magic Shield, Potion, and a Blue Ring, you are ready to start the game and have a very easy time out of about the first 4 dungeons. Go ahead and read on.

Whether or not you did the options above, I will continue the rest of this walkthrough as if you haven't just to be fair to everyone. The above cheats are useful but if you like to play the game the hardway, that's fine, too. However, I will recommend that you do #6 listed in the previous section. This is a very useful thing to have throughout the game and is about the closest you are going to come to "bottled fairies" in this game.

When the game first starts, head into the cave in front of you to receive your sword from an old man. Once you have this, step back outside. It would be best if you explore a little bit around the world. Unlike most Zelda games, this game is a lot more free lance. Dungeons can even be done out of order if you want to try. There are secrets hidden in many places. Don't take the game for granted just because it has 8-bit graphics. It is far more complex than most games offered on the shelves today. Let's just say, this game used it's 8-bit technology just to make things even more complicated.

When you are done roaming around and exploring, and are ready to get underway, it's time to head to the first dungeon. Not much to do before it either. The directions to all of the dungeons are listed on the Dungeon Quick Directions page, but I'll still post them here. To get to the first dungeon simply go back to the starting position and go right, up, up, up, up, and left. Enter the gnarled looking tree.

========== • Labyrinth Level 1 - Eagle • ==========

When you enter inside the dungeon, you will be greeted by two open doors on the sides and a locked door above. In the room to the left, kill the Keese and retrieve the key, but before you use it on the door, go into the room to the right. One of the Stalfos in here also has a key (you can see it, too). Kill him to retrieve it.

Go back to the entrance room and use a key on the locked door. Kill the Stalfos in this room and go up into another Stalfos filled room. Kill the Stalfos to retrieve the key. Now, if you have the bombs you could blast a hole in the wall in this room, but if you don't, just go right. Kill the Keese and get the Compass. In this game the Compass merely tells you where the Triforce Piece is located in the map up in the corner of your screen. In this room the north wall is also bombable, but if you don't have the bombs, go back to the previous room and go through the left door.

The door will slam shut behind you. In order to reopen again, you must kill all of the Keese. Use a key on the north wall to enter the next room. Kill the tiny Gels in this room. Once the room is monster free, move the block. This will unlock the door to the left which houses an Old Man who will give you a pretty decent tip. Go back into the previous room and take the door to the right. Kill the Gels and get the Map which will allow the Compass to make a lot more sense.

Now, before you unlock that door the the right, instead, take the path upwards. In this water-flooded room there are three Stalfos, one of which has a key. Get the key and go up into the next room. Yet another key resides in this room guarded by three Moblins. These guys are somewhat tough to beat right now, so be careful. Once you have the key, use one to open the door to the left and enter the next room. Watch out! There are strange spike things on the floor called Traps. They are quick when they are racing towards you, but pretty slow when moving back to their original position. The good thing is, these guys don't move again until they have gone back to their original position after hitting something, so take that time to get your work done.

In the room you will see a set of stairs surrounded by blocks with Traps in all four corners. There's only one way to get to the stairs. You have to move the left most block. Once you have gone down the stairs, you will enter an underground cave. Watch out for the Keese flying around and climb the stairs to retrieve the Bow! Too bad you can't use it until you have bought the Arrows. Now that you have it, though, exit the passage.

Done in the northern penninsula, it's time to double back. Go right, down, and down back to the room where you received the Map. Unlock the door to the right and continue your journey.

Three Boomerang-slinging Moblins guard this room. Careful, they're tricky, but once you have killed all three you will receive the best weapon in the game - the Boomerang. It's only Wooden right now, though, but it's still an awesome object. You can throw it to stun most enemies and even kill a few. Once you have it, enter the room to the right.

It looks like a pretty empty room with a Key down in the corner - but watch out! There are Wallmasters in this room! Get caught by these things and you'll be sent all the way back to the beginning of the dungeon! You can kill them, though it takes a few hits, so be careful. Snag the key and get out of there into the above locked room. However, you might want to think before you do that. Unlike the later Zelda games, the Boss rooms are very much unannounced, though in most cases, you can exit them if you need to.

Boss Fight: Aquamentus
Not too tough of a guy actually. It's only attack is to stand there and shoot three beams at you that can be avoided if you watch the spaces that grow between them as they near you. To kill this Boss, just hit the horn on his head. Can anyone say "pushover"?

When you have successfully killed him, pick up the newly earned Heart Container and enter into the room to the right. The same room the Compass marks with a dot. And inside is, of course, one of the eight missing Triforce Pieces! Your Health Bar will be replenished and you will be transported back outside.

========== • Finding Dungeon 2 • ==========

There is not much to do right now in between the first and second dungeons. If you want the Arrows, though, you can start collecting 80 Rupees to buy them from a shop. While you are there, it would be most recommended that you purchase some bombs. For the next dungeon they'll be helpful in saving up some keys, but it's your choice. You can even start going out in search of a few new Heart Containers.

Whatever you plan to do, eventually you'll need to make your way to the 2nd dungeon. To get there, from the starting screen go go right, up, right, right, right, up, right, right, up, left, up. For some odd reason this dungeon is always the hardest for me to find. I can find the other ones easily without a map but... hrrrm... who knows.

========== • Labyrinth Level 2 - Moon • ==========

When you are inside, you have two doors to choose from. You can go in either, but I suggest the top one. Kill all of the snake-like creatures called Ropes and go into the left room. You will encounter even more Ropes, but this time they are guarding a key. Go back into the previous room and go into the right one this time. Kill the three Ropes in here and go down. This is the east room that you saw at the beginning of the dungeon. Get the key and go back up.

Now, if you want, you can go through this next few set of rooms and use your keys on all of the doors. However, all of the east most rooms have bombable walls to the north and south. Keys can be saved and used in other dungeons, and frequently need to. Otherwise, you have to buy them. Let's save Rupees and do this my way. Don't enter any of the east rooms by using a key.

Instead, go up and kill the Molblins and go up again. Here you can kill a bunch of Ropes to get a Key and the side door is also unlocked! I recommend going up one more room first. Two Lanmolas will emerge and you will have to kill them to recieve a key. The door to the right is also unlocked in this room. So, go in.

Kill the Keese to recieve Bombs, even if you didn't buy them you can still use this little trick - cute huh? Use a bomb on the south wall and go down. Kill the Goriya's in here and you will receive the Magic Boomerang! Use a bomb on the south wall and go back down again. Kill the Gels to receive the map. Bomb the south wall again and kill the Gels to receive the Compass. Travel all the way back up through the walls until you get to the north wall you haven't blown a hole in. Use a bomb and enter. Killing the Gels in here will give you some Rupees.

Go through the north door and you will meet an Old Man who will tell you the secret to fighting the boss. Now, bomb your last and final hole in the east wall or you can back track and go through an open door and head back up. Whatever you prefer.

If you went my way you should now be in a room of Goriyas. Kill them and you will receive some bombs. Don't bother about the room to the south unless you really want to. It is simply a room full of Ropes. They will give you nothing for defeating them. The room to the north, however is the important one. The boss room.

Boss Fight: Dodongo
Maybe not as impressive as Aquamentus. He's also nothing to worry about. He just sort of ambles along and dones't try to hit you. To kill him try to place your bombs in front of him so he will swallow them. Keep doing this until he's dead. Your sword is useless. However, there is a trick you can do if you are lucky. Place the bomb to explode on Dodongo's back. This will stun him and you can use your sword to kill him in one hit!

When he's dead, pick up the new Heart Container and go into the left room to receive the Triforce Piece!
