========== • The Beginning • ==========

Introduction:
Kokiri Forest is the starting place for your grand adventure to save Hyrule. I'm sure you want to jump right to slashing a huge sword into the final boss, but in order to get there, you have a long struggle ahead of you. Oh wait! Don't leave! I'm here to help you out! My name is Devilitchi, nice to meet you! Don't worry, we will get through this game together. If you ever get stuck, just come right back to this page!

Kokiri Forest:
After being awoken from a bad dream, you meet Navi who has been sent to you from the great Deku Tree. It seems the end is near for the Deku Tree, and he needs your help! After going through a conversation with Navi, Saria - your good friend, shows up to chat. Shocked you have a fairy to call your own, Saria suggests you head straight for the Deku Tree in the East. Doing so you are stopped by Mido. He thinks he owns the forest, and tells you that in order to proceed you need a sword and a shield. Getting both of these objects will teach you the very basics of the game!

Kokiri Sword:
Located in a small hole near the Know-it-All Bros.' house (which is located to the right of Link's house if you were looking right at his house) you will find a small obstacle course. Once you craw through the small opening, wait for a giant rock to roll past you. If you don't wait you will most likely be smashed by it. Quickly follow the rock, picking up all the rupees you can find along the way (you will need them soon). When you reach the treasure chest, open it with the A button. Congrats! You have your first weapon.

Searching for Cash:
With your sword, cut down all the grass you can to get rupees. The shield will cost you 40 rupees which shouldn't take too long to get. A simple trick to get fast rupees is in front of the Shop. You see those 3 brick like things floating in the water in front of the shop? Jump from one to the other to go all the way across. Doing so will give you rupees. Also, pots in peoples houses give you rupees too. After you have 40, buy the Deku Shield (made from real Deku Tree? No wonder why the Tree is dying!) from the shop. Now it is time to head to the Giant Deku Tree!

========== • The Deku Tree - Dungeon #1 • ==========

The Deku Tree is your very first Ocarina of Time dungeon. It offers all the basics, and includes many classic puzzles found in the old Zelda games that the veterans will know and love. Before you enter, you will want to stack up on Deku Sticks by killing the plant-like monsters outside the Deku Tree. There are quite a few torch-lighting puzzles in here, and without the sticks you will have to do a lot of annoying back tracking making your first dungeon experience a bad one. Anyways, after you hear the Deku Tree talk, he will open his mouth for you to enter and explore.

1. Upon entering, make sure to kill all the Babas, then look around you to see a climbable ivy, or ladder. Pull yourself up the wall and you will be on the next level of the same room. Run around the top of the second level of Room 1. This will be a good time to practice the "auto-jump" feature, since you will be using this the rest of the game. Continue forward and you will find the very first dungeon chest, which contains the ever so useful "Dungeon Map". Continue on further until you find the first door you can open, and enter.

2. Yay! Deku Shrubs are in this small room. To defeat them use your shield to reflect their nut back at them. Make sure to aim as best as you can so the Deku Nut hits the shrub. Upon impact, the Shrub will try to run away, chase it down and talk to it. He will tell you a small secret of the dungeon. Enter the door in front of you.

3. When you jump down into the room you will see that escaping it easily is not an option. Climb up to open the Treasure chest, and your first dungeon weapon, the slingshot! Aim your brand new slingshot at the ladder secretly hidden above the entranceway you came in, so it falls to the ground allowing you to climb up it safely. Return on your merry way to the first room you came in, or the "trunk" of the tree.

4. Still on the 2nd floor, continue your climb upwards. You will see a few "Skullwalltulas" on the ivy you are trying to climb. It is easiest to shoot them with your new slingshot so they vanish. You could ignore them, but the second they notice your presence you will be toast. Some of them can not easily be targeted, so you will have to manually aim at them to get a good shot. When you finally each the 3rd floor you will see a giant Skulltula. These are not as easy to kill as the Skullwalltulas. You must wait until the Skulltula turns it back, then shoot it with your Slingshot. Otherwise, the Skulltula will use a quick spin attack that doesn't miss. If you are out of Deku Nuts (already?!) you can always use your jumping sword attack to do the trick too.

5. Take the room located to your west (remember the tried and true "Never Eat Shredded Wheat" method if you are confused). Inside you'll see a room with three pillars, a switch, and a treasure chest containing the ever so useful Compass. This is pretty simple, hit the switch in the room and all the pillars rise. Quickly jump from them to reach the treasure chest before the pillars fall back down. Make sure before leaving the room to hit the switch again and jump over to the left to get health and your very first Gold Skulltula to call your own! Before you can leave, light a Deku Stick and transfer the flame to the unlit torch on the other side. The door will open allowing you to exit.

6. Now is a fun part! Walk carefully off the ledge of the 3rd floor from the door you just exited into the huge spiders web below (on the floor of the first floor). Aim for the middle as you free fall, upon impact it will stretch and bust, allowing you entrance into the Basement of the dungeon. In this room are two Gold Skulltulas, be sure to find them. Now, light a Deku Stick with the nearby torch and bring it over to the spider web covering the next door. Its wise to figure out your plan before you do it, because if the stick gets wet, it goes out. Successful completion allows you to set the webbing on fire, opening the next door.

7. Yee-haw! Another Deku Shrub. Use the same tactic as before, and he will give you another tip, "23 is #1". o_O Ok freaky little guy... use your slingshot and hit the silver open eye above the barred door to enter the next room.

8. Hidden in the water in this room is a switch. Hit it so the water level lowers and quickly jump from ledge to ledge before the water level rises again. Kill the Giant Skulltula, and using the near-by block push it to form a step-up to the next room.

9. This next room has yet another simple puzzle involving lighting torches. Easily solve it and continue on.

10. In the next room, be warned of the falling larvae from the ceiling. It is best to just hang on the outside of the room, get near the center and you will get attacked. Torch the webbing in front of you and continue on, you are almost done with your first dungeon!

11. You can push the big block in front of you forward to create a step so incase you die, you don't have to do this all over again. It is very wise to do so. Next, light a deku stick, and roll around on the webbing in the floor causing it to burn open, and you will fall down another level. Weeee!

12. Ah, this is what that Deku Shrub was talking about "23 is #1!" First kill the middle shrub, then the right one, then the left one using the same Deku Shrub slaughter routine. Doing so in this order opens the door to your first boss! Oh the excitement!

BOSS : Parasite Armored Arachnid Gohma

After entering the room, look up at the big red eye in the ceiling. This starts the battle! Big Momma Gohma isn't that hard if you kill her quickly, but if you let her hang around (literally) she will release her devil spawned children on you, and you could be in for big trouble. So, the wisest thing to do is pull out your trusted slingshot, Z-Target her eye, and when you see that it is red, unless Deku Nuts into it. Quickly run towards her sword drawn and slash her up as fast as you can. After a few hits, she'll run up to the ceiling making it hard to keep her Z-Targeted. If she opens her eye on the ceiling hit her with the Slingshot again, and continue slashing. If she doesn't open her eye... then you are in trouble. Tons of little Gohma will fall out of the ceiling and come after you. Its best to keep running from them waiting for the big momma to fall again and continue.

After you do this a few times, she will finally die off, and you have beat your first boss in Ocarina of Time! Pat yourself on the back. Be sure to grab the Heart, and enter the crystal portal to continue your adventure!

========== • To Hyrule Castle • ==========

To Hyrule Castle
As you rush out to leave Kokiri Forest to continue your quest, you will run into your friend Saria. After some chit-chat, she will give you the Fairy Ocarina. Now, you can continue forward to Hyrule Castle (or not, and shut the game off never to save Hyrule... but the guilt is on your shoulders, not mine!).

Hyrule Field
You will now in a huge landmass known as Hyrule Field. To your north is Hyrule Castle, your first stop. East of that is Kakariko Village and Zora's River. West of all that is Gerudo Valley. Almost center of Hyrule Field is the Lon Lon Ranch. You are free to venture around any of these places, but your owl friend and Navi will try to stop you saying you don't have the time, blah blah. It's best just to head due north. On your way, it will change to night. Once night strikes, you will fight tons of skeletons. These are the greatest things to fight... don't ask me why, but I like fighting them. Anyways, keep heading north towards the castle, when day breaks the bridge will go down, allowing you entrance to the Hyrule Market.

Hyrule Market
There are lots of shops and excitement in the Market, but I wouldn't recommend venturing around this early in the game. Getting lost, or having tons of things thrown at you for your first time playing will make the game seem like its too much to handle. So, instead of dealing with all that right now, just keep heading north towards the castle.

Hyrule Castle
You will meet a young girl named Malon near an ivy on the right. Talk to her, and agree to find her father. She will give you a "Weird Egg". Keep it, climb up the ivy, and jump over the large front gate that blocks you from entering. If you walk on top of the gate, a guard will spot you. It is your objective to get into the castle without the guards stopping you. After jumping off the gate, you will notice that the road goes left, with a huge stone and tree to the front of you. If you look to the left you will see a hill. Climb up the hill carefully, if you are spotted by a guard you will have to do it all over again. Keep running towards the West end of the area, where you see the brick wall. Once there, climb up it and jump into the moat surrounding the castle. Swim forward and you will see in a corner a place for you to climb up. Head left, and you will see Talon sleeping. Wait until dawn, and the egg will watch - waiting him up. Now, push the crates over the edge to allow them to pile up allowing you to jump to the tiny opening in the castle wall.

Inside the Castle
Once again you have to hide from the guards, but this time it is much easier. Just stand still and wait to get the pattern of all the guards down. If they are facing away from you, you are safe. Keep doing this until you enter Princess Zelda's garden. Feel free to shoot the portraits in the windows on the left and right walls of the garden for some surprises. Now run up and talk to Zelda to tell her about the Deku Tree!

========== • Return to Top • ==========

========== • Many Visits • ==========

The Visit
After you talk to the princess, the fairy ocarina that was given to you by Sara is now worth something! Impa, Zelda’s servant and personal slave and protector will teach you Zelda’s Lullaby which is a song to show you are apart of the Royal family or when you see a Triforce symbol on the floor. You will also get a handwritten letter from Zelda herself to show to anyone who gives you gripe about your duties to save the world from utter doom!

To Lon Lon Ranch
After talking with Impa, it will be wise to head to Lon Lon Ranch. Walk towards the field with all the horses and find Malon. She will teach you “Epona’s Song” which will be very useful later on in the game. You can also play a “Catch the Chickens” game with Talon.

The Lost Woods
Return to Kokiri and go into the tunnel behind Mido’s house. You will now enter the Lost Woods. There are a few ways to make your way through this maze. The main one is to listen to the music as you walk by an entrance, but since I’m here I can tell you the right way to go. Head right, left, right, left, forward, left, then right.

The Sacred Meadow
Before you can enter the Meadow you need to kill to Wolfos. They are pretty mean, but you can handle them if you wait for them to raise their arms up and quickly run in swinging that sword. You have a short maze to go through, but its nothing like the Lost Woods maze.

Saria’s Song
After you make your way through the Sacred Meadow you will view a cut scene with Sara explaining that if you ever want to hear her voice or plans on what to do next to play the song. Exit the meadow by climbing the ladder near you and leaping from platform to platform. Make your way out of the Lost Woods (you can just enter a wrong door and you will be brought back to start), then exit Kokiri Village. Head up the river in Hyrule Field until you see a stairway to the right heading up into Kakariko Village.

========== • Return to Top • ==========

========== • Up The Mountain • ==========

Kakariko Village
The village holds a few important points of interest, like the House of Skulltula, Impa’s House, the Unfinished House, and more. It would be best to take a look around the village and do little odds and ends to get items. You will also want to buy a larger shield from the shop, otherwise you have a chance of your shield getting burnt to a crisp when you start climbing the mountain.

Death Mountain Gates
When you enter the village, head left and up to the guard at the gate. Show him Zelda’s letter, and he will let you pass. He will also mention something about a mask he wants for his kid that you can get from the mask shop in Hyrule Marketplace. (But when you bring it to him, he keeps it on…I thought his kid wanted it? Sure…he just wants to be like Pikachu).

Climbing the Mountain
The Death Mountain Trail is pretty short, but it will also test your skills using Link’s sword. There are quite a few hidden passages you can blow up with bombs later on here, you can tell by the weird looks in some parts of the mountain wall. You will get bomb use in a bit, so be sure to come back for goodies. For now, keep heading up until you reach Goron City.

Goron City
Goron City is home to a bunch of rock like half fat babies half giants. Head to the bottom of the city until you find the rug with the “royal markings”. Play Zelda Lullaby and the door opens. Darunia is inside and he is in a really bad mood. No! Don’t take your sword out, he’s just mad because the place where they get all their food is highly dangerous now because of monsters called Dodongos. No problem right? You’ll just head to this cavern and kill these monsters and be on your merry way to save Hyrule. Wrong. Ganondorf has sealed the entrance! To improve Darunia’s mood, play Sara’s Song. He will start dancing and “feeling the beat”. After he dances around, Link will get the Goron’s Bracelet. Now he can pick up bombs and blow stuff up!

Opening the Cave
When you leave the city, head right and look for the loner Goron. Pick the bomb from the Bomb Flower next to him and throw it off the cliff onto the rock blocking the entrance below you. Ta-da! Now you can enter the cave, kill the monsters, and get the next spiritual stone Zelda needs!

========== • Return to Top • ==========

========== • Dodongo's Cavern - Dungeon #2 • ==========

Dodongo’s Cavern
If you didn’t grab a Hylian shield, you might want to think about getting one before you get too far inside the Cavern. Or, you can just run through it thinking you own the place, but don’t come crying to me if you are shield-less later on.

Use the Bomb Flowers to blast open the door, and you will enter a seemingly large room with moving platforms and lava. Be careful of Beamos, they are the robot looking things that shoot Beams at you. A few hits from one of these will be deadly.

Use a bomb to blast open the middle door on the left side. The other door holds a Business Shrub that will sell you another Deku Shield if yours gets burned. The middle room has the Dungeon Map.

Use Bomb Flowers to explode the closed up doorway in the southeast corner of the room. Walk through the passage as slowly as possible, otherwise a bunch of small Dodongos will run up to you and explode. Not a very nice welcome gift. When you reach the raised section of the passage, you’ll find a switch. Move the statue next to the switch to keep it pressed down (usual Zelda puzzle), and run to the next room.

You’ll find another passage way, this time filled with two Keese, you can easily kill them with your Slingshot to make life a lot easier for you. You’ll want to not get hurt by them, because you have a small battle coming up.

Mini Boss #1
You had to know something was up when you walked in the room and the doors bolted shut! Two “Lizalfos” will jump from platform to platform taking turns to defeat you. After each one gets 3 hits, they will switch. Keep the Z Targeted and watch their attack patterns. For some reason, I love fighting these guys. After killing them, advance to the now unlocked room.

The next room holds larger Dodongos that breathe fire. Hit their tails to kill them off, and then use your Deku Stick to light the three torches in the room. Now you will enter a room with a switch, press it to raise the bars and then head over to the over side of the cavern.

The first room you enter has a huge cement like block surrounded with Bomb Flowers. Blow one of the flowers up on either side, and they will all blow up, bringing the structure down and creating steps. The room on the other side holds a Compass, might want to pick that up.

Now, you can climb the stairs to the second floor of the Cavern. You are about half way done with this dungeon! The room at the very top leads to a room of statues that come to life. Pull the statue out of the way and climb the latter to step on another switch. The bars will raise, enter the room.

Now comes the part where you should have gotten the Hylian Shield. If you didn’t, best of luck to you. You will see Fire Keese, be sure to defeat them quickly if you have a Deku Shield, they will continue to pester you for a long time, then burn your Shield or even you. Cross over the bridge and enter the room.

You will have to move fast to avoid getting stabbed by razor’s. At the east end of the room, climb the box, then the ladder. Jump from the ledge to a platform behind you. Grab a Bomb Flower and hold onto it until it starts to flash red real fast. Toss it at the blocked door to blast it open.

In the next room, huge flames block your path. Grab your slingshot and shoot the eye above the door on the other end of the room. Quickly jump over to the other door, or the flames will re-appear.

Mini Boss #2
The Lizalfos are back! Use the same system as before and you will have them beat in no time.

Now you’ll enter a room with two huge flames blocking your path. Shoot the eye at the end of the corridor above the door, then quickly jump where the flames were. Quickly turn left and shoot the other eye. Then jump to the other platform and through the door. Be quick, the flames will return.

Now you’ll be back in the Razor room, grab a Bomb Bag from the Treasure Chest. This will allow you to hold bombs! Yay! Continue your way across and you will walk onto a ledge that looks down on the main room. You’ll see a switch, step on it. Now the platform on the east side of the cavern will go all the way up to where you are. This will make easy back and forth travel.

Cross the bridge and drop a bomb into each of the Dodongo skulls eyes. When both eyes are red, its mouth will open. Go down to the first floor and enter its mouth. You are almost done!

In the Dodongo’s mouth you will see a switch in a hole in the center of the room. To keep it pressed down to enter the barred door, you need to pull yourself into the small passage on the east side of the room. Make your way through the tunnel and you will see a block, push it down into where the block was, and you are ready.

BOSS: King Dodongo
You’ll enter a room that seems empty, blow up the crack in the middle of the floor and jump down.

King Dodongo is actually a push over if you know what you are doing. When he opens his mouth, throw a bomb inside. It will explode and he will fall down. Run up and slash him to bits. Keep doing this until you defeat him. After hitting him, he will roll around the room trying to run you over. If you stand as close to the lava as possible, you will be safe. Keep him Z-Targeted, and keep throwing bombs in his mouth and slashing him.

Goron’s Ruby
Now that the cavern is safe for Gorons again, you will be given the Goron’s Ruby, and watch out for those Goron hugs… they seem painful.

========== • Return to Top • ==========

========== • The Path to the Final Spiritual Stone • ==========

A Short Pit Stop…
After getting the second spiritual stone, you will definitely want to take a few minutes and explore the mountain. You’ll want to continue upwards to the top of Death Mountain to meet the first Great Fairy. If you continue upwards, you will soon reach a wall you must climb. Climb the wall being careful you don’t get hit by the Skullwalltulas.

One doorway leads to the Death Mountain Crater, you’ll know if this is the door you entered because you will begin to lose health. Don’t continue forward unless you want Roasted Link (and I heard it isn’t very good…). Enter the other room, and you’ll see the Great Fairy’s Fountain. Walk up to the triforce symbol on the floor and play Zelda’s Lullaby.

Thanks to the Great Fairy, you will now be able to use Link’s trademark “Charged Spin Attack”. You will be using Magic Points (or MP) every time you use the move, so be sure to keep an eye on your Magic Meter.

When you exit the fountain, you will see the good ol’ Owl again. He will offer you a ride down to Kakariko Village…be sure to take it, it’s a long way down! He will drop you off on the roof of a house. You are now able to get a Heart Piece because of this, so be sure to get it (it’s through the door on top of the Cucco Lady’s stall).

Wave goodbye to Kakariko Village and enter Hyrule Field. Head south, or follow the river in front of you, and enter Zora’s River.

Zora’s River
It’s best to stay out of the water as much as possible here. The currents are very strong and will carry you all the way back to the entrance of the River.

The boulders blocking the entrance are able to be bombed, so that shouldn’t pose a problem at all. After bombing the boulders, keep going forward. You’ll notice the river shrink a little, where it does, jump over to the right side and continue forward. The main objective is to keep going forward and upward. You will have to jump back and forth a bit, while dodging Octorok bullets. If you fall in the deep water, you’ll be carried away to the start of the area again, but you can try to get yourself out of the water by grabbing onto a ledge. It is possible, but it isn’t easy.

You will soon come up to a Triforce Emblem on the ground. Play Zelda’s Lullaby again, and the waterfall will open up, allowing you access to Zora’s Domain.
